IZ73Z0_152265– Capitalization of the natural potential of several medicinal and aromatic species in the Artemisia genus with economic and ecological value in Moldova(Acronym: REART)

Joint Research project (SCOPES) – Scientific cooperation between Eastern Europe and Switzerland

Partner institutions
Mediplant, Swiss Research Institute for Aromatic and Medicinal Plants, Conthey, Switzerland,
Botanical Garden (Institute) of ASM, Chisinau, Republic of Moldova
“Stejarul” Biological Research Centre, Piatra Neamt, Romania

Wider Objective
Characterization and capitalization of the natural resources of several Artemisia species (A. annua,A. absinthium and A. lerchiana) by the habitat assessment, phytochemical screening and domestication of high yielding genotypes.

Specific Objectives
 Identification and description of the growing sites and samples collection
 Assesment of the bioproductivity of Artemisia wild populations from the target area
 Plant and seed collection

Projects activities
• Identification of the growing stations and floristic analyses of natural habitats of Artemisia species in the spontaneous flora of Republic of Moldova
• Bio-morphological, phenologic and bio-productive assessment of wild species
• Evaluation of the conservation status for the rare species A. lerchiana and development of in situ conservation strategies
• Sample collection for the phytochemical screening
• Seed collection for the establishment of the ex situ collections.

Expected Outputs
o Information on chorology and floristic composition of spontaneous populations of studied species
o Data on bio-morphological peculiarities and bio-productivity of wild species
o List of possible threats of natural habitats and conservation measures
o Plants samples for analyses
o Seeds samples for conservation and ex situ collections
